Varicose eczema refers to the skin changes that occur in the leg as result of stasis or pooling by gravitational collection of blood from insufficient venous return. The name, varicose eczema comes from a common cause of this being varicose veins. The signs include oedema, hyperpigmentation, venous dermatitis, chronic cellulitis, cutaneous infarction (atrophie-blanche) lipodermatosclerosis, lichenification of the skin of particular limb and ulceration.
